Would you believe tht beer waste produces electricity?

Power is generated from beer wastewater through the action of sugar-consuming bacteria. Organic matter is consumed by the bacteria, liberating alcohol, starch, and sugar in the process. The by-products of this method are electricity, clean water, and carbon dioxide.

A new alternative source of energy, the Beer Battery, not only produces electricity but also cleans up manufacturing leftovers.

Beer Battery is produced from beer wastewater and sugar-consuming bacteria.

Fuel cells are able to convert chemical energy back into electrical energy without producing pollution.

  1. This is fun idea. Good concept in deed. But a bit not so cost effective doing beer generated electricity?

  2. Hope that the concept of Beer Battery can soon work. Not only does this solves the energy problem but it also solves an environmental problem.

    Thanks for sharing.

  7. Great Idea--I worked in breweries in Milwaukee and it makes sense to me. Cattle get the waste grain and hops. So, drink a beer, have a steak, all in a beer powered restaurant behind the brewery. If you have ever been to the third ward in Milwaukee you could believe it all possible!

  8. Interesting idea. Didn't know that beer wastewater can be used to produce electricity. Just hope it won't promote drinking more beer. :)

  10. Well i've always wondered about different possible energy alternatives aside from the known standard energy sources. With energy prices increasing world wide it's hard not to think about the idea of one day we'll have a serious problem with energy sources.

Many thanks for the great info =)

  12. Clever. If done efficiently could reduce the cost of manufacturing beer, and therefore, getting drunk.
